the basics
Name || August Ramsey Hadley
Nicknames || Auggie, Augs
Age || 19
Birthday || August 3rd
Major/Career || Education (History Teacher)
Gender || Male
Sexuality || Bicurious
the appearance
Face Claim || Sean Grandillo
Height & Weight || 5'8", 163lbs
Identifying Features || A tattoo of an octopus above his left ankle
Overall || August is a fairly compact person with a small yet stocky build. His body is fairly rectangular in shape, with his hips being only slightly smaller than his shoulders. As far as muscles are concerned, August is not toned but he's also not incredibly soft. He has brown hair, dark brows, and stormy, blue-grey eyes. While he does have some mottled mahogany and amber glasses, these are primarily worn after his contacts are removed. He likes to wear neutral colors but is also partial to some somewhat wacky prints, depending on his mood. He is rarely seen in anything other than jeans unless he's lounging at home; to him, business casual simply means a pair of khakis and a button down.
the personality
Likes || Cinnamon rolls, collecting teas, horses, apples, cooking
Dislikes || Beer, wet socks, lint, the word 'moist', bed hair, his glasses
Strengths || Open-minded, studious, gentle
Weaknesses || Prideful, anxious, push over
Dreams || To teach history at the college level
Fears || Being alone forever
Overall || August has a soul that is simultaneously tender and strong. He's a very kind and compassionate person who cares deeply about the comfort and well-being of others. Volunteering is one of his favorite activities, especially when it comes to working with children; he's very fond of the idea of equitable education for all and wants to impact as many young people as possible. As such, he is incredibly ambitious and always raring and ready to devote his day to someone else.
Naturally, volunteering and working for others is rewarding, but it's also exhausting. August is horrible about taking time to himself and caring for his own needs. He has anxieties about the future that he procrastinates facing by volunteering. He's not good at voicing anything other than positive emotions. He's great at living inside of a shell and it's incredibly hard to coax him out of it. He doesn't trust others on deep levels, though he enjoys having a bunch of friends to party or cook with. He's a very gentle person who is always more than willing to try his best to help others, though he's never truly been sure how to address helping himself.
August knows he has issues with deep connection and commitment, which has truly inspired his greatest fear; he's scared he won't find someone who can love him for who he truly is. On the outside he presents a collected, calm, sociable, adorable human; on the inside, he feels anxious, turbulent, and unsteady. With mounting pressures from his parents (who met in college) and his (engaged) sisters, the relationship problem isn't one he knows how to solve and not one he's willing to address. In fact, his escapist tendencies are driving him in the opposite direction already.
the history
Father || Herb James Hadley
Mother || Candace Leeann Ramsey-Hadley
Siblings || Reagan Hadley (21), Joshua Hadley (17)
Home State || Washington
History || August is the middle child of the Hadley household, though he's not the outlier. In fact, August is perhaps the most well-rounded and reasonable of the Hadley children. He was well nurtured as a child and his every need was satisfied, though when Joshua came along he began to isolate himself more and more. When confronted about things, August would always try to be the peacekeeper. His sister was always getting into mischief that he would throw himself under the bus for, his brother was always picking fights, and little August would just take it all like it was what he was created for.
August never confronted these feelings and is still repressing them, though he has always been adamant about slapping on a joyful face and trying to make the most out of a situation. His grandparents were heavily involved in the community, so he was taught the importance of helping others and volunteering his time. He bonded well with his teachers and this was what inspired him to go to school to teach; teachers were able to give August things his family was not, like factoids and context.
During high school August was super involved in all sorts of extracurricular activities. He was the secretary in the student council, the treasurer of the his school's National Honor Society, a member of the Quiz Bowl team, and even had ties to FFA thanks to grandparent encouragement. All of these activities clogged up his day, distracted him from himself, and emphasized the value of helping others, never himself. Friends appealed to August and requested that he relax his activities a bit, but it was never something that seemed important enough to follow through on.
College hasn't been too bad so far, supplying August with ample opportunities to get involved in the community and serve others. Of course, this isn't always such a good thing; he's suffered multiple stress-related breakdowns already. He doesn't really know how to help himself, so he's chosen once again to run from the issues and hope that they don't surface again.
