i could burn a hole with my eyes that cuts straight through the skin no more love, no more resolution it's getting harder bearing the darkness within i gotta let it out, i'm gonna let it... i can feel your bad vibrations all around me, all consuming corrupting all that i am
Breakfast time was a necessity in Garrett's routine. But he couldn't imagine trying to make eggs and toast for the sixth day in a row. He needed variety, but didn't feel like going to the grocery store. So Sleekee's it was. They always treated him well in the past. He loved food. It was one thing that never let him down. The waitress came over and asked him what he wanted to drink. "Water and coffee for me. I'm also ready to order, if you're ready," he said, bluntly. Garrett wasn't known for being very nice. Luckily, the waitresses hadn't picked up on it quite yet. "I need a western omelette with hashbrowns," he ordered, looking forward to his breakfast. The waitress nodded, and left his table to put the order in. She brought his drinks back, and then left him be for the time being.
He pulled out his phone, and began to scroll through Instagram, bored out of his mind. He was a fairly independent person, but he did enjoy company from time to time. Unfortunately, he didn't know very many people at Copper Harbor quite yet. It was the problem of keeping to himself.
Just like every morning Gia was up early and ready for her morning run around town. Being a dancer, fitness and her overall health was important to her. That being said she had a bad habit of heading out to Sleekee's a few times a week for breakfast after her run. You weren't a real college student if you didn't indulge in greasy food every once and a while, plus she enjoyed the food quite a bit. Her dance instructor would have killed her if she knew she frequently ate this kind of food. Once inside she noticed the place was quite busy and that there weren't very many open seats. Taking a quick look around she noticed a handsome guy sitting by himself in a booth.
Approaching the booth she flashed a smile. Sorry to Interrupt you, is someone sitting here? she asked gesturing to the seat across from him. Would you mind if I joined you, its pretty busy in here she said mentioning the lack of seating. Gia wasn't shy at all and while most people may have felt a bit awkward asking if they could sit with a complete stranger it didn't bother her the slightest bit. The worst that he could say was no, in which case she would just patiently wait for her food to be made and take it to go. However after just working out she had hoped to take a bit of a break.

Garrett wasn't necessarily mean, but he was blunt. Which could lead to being a bit harsh at times. Some people could handle it, others couldn't. He really didn't care either way. He didn't plan on apologizing for who he was. He slowly set his phone down on the table, and looked up at the girl standing next to it. She was fairly cute, but not really his type. She was already too forward for him, being as she approached him to sit down with him. "Nobody is sitting there," he grunted, but not offering up the seat. Until a minute later, when she asked. "Sit down," he instructed. He tended to take charge in situations, and this wasn't going to change.
"You normally have a habit of sitting down with strangers?" he asked, a small smirk on his face. He took a deep drink of his coffee, and then set the cup back down. "I'm Garrett," he stated, offering up a small piece of information about himself.

First impressions of this guy so far weren't so great, he seemed a little rough around the edges just by the first few words that he said. Suddenly she wondered if she had asked to sit in the wrong seat. The smile briefly left her face as he instructed her to sit down, this was probably going to be a bit of a awkward meeting. At least with her personality she knew she could make the best of it. Thank You she said as she sat in the seat across from him. The waitress came back to the table and asked Gia what she would like. Ill have the Chicken Fajita Omlette and a black coffee......and a side of pancakes she said, the girl could eat even if what she was ready to devour would pretty much cancel out her workout it would be worth it.
As the waitress left to get her order started Gia's attention turned back to her dinning partner. You would be surprised the people your able to meet if your willing to talk with a stranger she said. Being a outgoing person it was easy for her to get a long with most people. Plus It's pretty crowded in here, I doubt I have to worry about you kidnapping me in here she said jokingly. Her mother always warned her that she should be more cautious with people but really she didn't think she had to worry about anything here. Maybe just a unpleasant conversation. At least he was willing to introduce himself, that was a start. Nice to meet you Garrett, I'm Gianna. Was it really nice to meet him? Only time would tell. Do you attend the university? she asked. I'm a Theatre and Dance student she offered up that little fact about herself, she wasn't about to just sit in awkward silence.

Garrett half-smiled at the girl as she sat down and ordered her food. Quite a bit to eat for such a small girl. She apparently didn't mind eating in front of guys, either. He went back to quietly drinking his coffee, musing over his next guitar piece he would work on. Since coming to Copper Harbor, he hadn't been able to break out his guitar very often. Which wasn't like him at all. He loved playing his guitar. It was one thing nobody else could control. He was able to have full independence over what he was playing, or when he was playing, or almost really, where he was playing.
Garrett nodded at the girl. He was sure someone could meet some interesting people talking to strangers. But there was also a lot of danger in doing that. Some interesting people could be trouble. Especially for a young, pretty girl like the one sitting across from him. "I guess, if you're willing to risk it, sure," he said. Personally, he probably wouldn't have much trouble talking to a stranger - if he wanted to. Nobody was about to abduct a 6'1" man. Double standards and all. "But you're right. Pretty safe bet here," he agreed. And he had no interest in taking her anywhere. He wasn't that type of person. He was studying law enforcement, after all. "Same to you, Gianna," he replied. "Yeah, I'm a law enforcement major," he said. That itself might relieve her of any worries - if she had any. Law enforcement majors were a pretty safe bet to sit down in a booth with, mostly. "Where will theater and dance take you?" he asked, becoming a little curious.

Gianna didn't mind eating in front of guys and she rarely cared what people think. She wasn't the type of girl to order a salad and water. No, she would order the steak and beer. Sure she did have to watch herself sometimes because she was a dancer, but she figured if she splurged a little bit on food she would just make up for it later. Why deprive yourself? The waitress came back not much later and set her food down in front of her. Man it smelled so good. Grabbing the hot sauce she poured some over the top of her omelet, man she loved her food spicy.
Guess I made the right choice in stranger to sit with then she said smiling. What made you decide to go into law enforcement? she asked out of curiosity. She had family members that had gone into law enforcement so she always had respect for them, it wasn't a easy job no matter how you looked at it. Taking a bite of her food she let of a small sigh of delight before continuing on with the conversation. Probably a strip club she said looking dead serious. Hey, those girls had to dance and act as if nothing bothered them and they made good money. A smile cracked on her face No actually My hope is Broadway and Teaching she said with a more light hearted tone.
Gianna had heard it a million times how this was such a stupid dream and that only so many people made it far. However, if she could just get past her fear of dancing and put her everything into it she definitely had the talent to make it. Gianna could act, she could dance and she was even a good singer...triple threat. Broadway was her ultimate dream but she also wanted to be able to teach children how to dance and follow their own dreams.

Garrett's food was placed in front of him at the same time the girl's was. Both omelettes looked delicious, and he couldn't wait to eat his. It was still eggs, but much better than what he could make at home. Plus there was potatoes, which was always a good thing. He looked over at the girl as she poured hot sauce on her food, and he reached over for the sauce to do the same to his. He put a decent amount of the red sauce onto his omelette and then took a big bite. He loved spicy foods. It was something he couldn't live without. Almost everything he ate had to have a little bit of spice to it, except for fruits and sweets.
He set his fork down, and nodded as he was chewing his food. He swallowed his food, and then smirked at the girl's smile. "If you say so. Could be a stranger setting you up to trust me," he said. He wasn't one for the positives in life. He was always thinking about the could haves in life. Definitely the type of attitude you would want in a law enforcement officer. Someone who was always thinking about the possibilities of danger around them, and ready for anything to happen in any given moment. "I grew up in a military family. Wasn't really one for the military, so I decided the law enforcement route would be the best way to go," he said. He loved what he was doing, though he never really showed it to anyone. He was going to make a great cop some day, even if it killed him.
Garrett stared at Gianna as she made her comment about stripping. "Uhm," he said. His face visibly relaxed when she cracked a smile. "That sounds...interesting," he said. He didn't know much about theater at all. Or dancing. He did, however, know about strip clubs, but that story was for a different time. Garrett wasn't sure how far her goals would take her, being as he didn't know anything about her lifestyle. He knew Broadway was big, but didn't know how difficult it was to get into. Strip clubs were a lot easier to get into, though. He did know that. And he hoped she wasn't headed down that path, for her own sake.

Gia let out a small laugh as he poured Hot sauce on his food right after her. Well maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all, the conversation all ready seemed to be taking a lighter turn from the first few minutes. All ready they had something in common, the love of spicy foods. Her father used to joke that you couldn't trust someone who didn't like spicy food. After a few bites of the omelette she moved on to the pancakes that lay to the side of her. She spread the butter then proceeded to pour on the maple syrup, she never got to fancy with her pancakes. She preferred good old maple syrup and maybe some chocolate chips, but she wasn't into those fruity flavors or unique flavors of pancakes. The sweetness of the syrup and fluffiness of the pancakes was like heaven when it hit her mouth.
Shrugging her shoulders she shook her head. There was something about Garrett even if he wasn't the friendliest she still felt like she could trust him...or in other words he wasn't giving on any serial killer vibes. Most the time she could trust her gut feeling about people, even if it was stupid only going off of that. Plus the girl was extremely athletic and agile, she would not be a easy target to take. Well isn't it something like 9 out of 10 people who are kidnapped know their kidnappers? she asked trying to sound smart...maybe she had watched to many crime shows on tv. I think its great, but don't forget to smile...you do want people to trust you right? she asked. With all the bad thoughts of cops now a days she thought it was important that even if they were strong individuals that they also showed that they cared for the people the protected, you needed to be able to trust the cops.
It makes good money she said shrugging her shoulders and laughing just a bit. I've been dancing since I was 5 years old, hours of dance lessons, 5 days a week. At least until the accident..... she said trailing off. She shouldn't have brought that up because it was something she hated to talk about. I have a dance studio all ready.... well its more like a run down building right now she said. Gianna bought it with the money her parents left her, but it needed a lot of work in order to be usable. After buying it she saw the dollar signs that it would take to fix it up and felt sick. It had been a decision made out of excitement and not much thinking. It had potential at least.

This girl was going to be the death of him. He shook his head at her as she ate her pancakes. She really wasn't afraid to chow down. He continued to eat his omelette, taking each bite slowly and savoring the flavor. He hadn't had a decent meal cooked like this for him in awhile. He was used to his normal routine at home. Taking a break from that was a great idea. "There's always that 1 in 10, though," he smirked. He had always been cautious his entire life. It only took a brief moment of letting your guard down for something to happen. It was something his dad had always taught him. Be alert, know your surroundings. He laughed. "I mean, I also want some people to be afraid of me, so either way, it'll work out," he said. Sure, he wanted people to trust him, but he also wanted their respect. And usually with respect, there was always that little bit of fear that comes along with it.
Garrett nodded. He would have never thought that dancing could make good money. Unless they were stripping. He knew strippers walked away with a good amount of money most nights. "That's a long time dedicated to one thing," he said. He had been dedicated to the military lifestyle since he was born, however. So he understood what it took for that. "What accident?" he questioned, and then immediately regretted it. But there was something about this girl that made him want to get to know more. Like he needed to know more about her. He felt as if he should protect her, for some reason. He grunted at her comment about the dance studio. He didn't want her to think he was getting more friendly on her.

Her parents had of course taught her not to go strange places or talk to strangers as a kid. Now that she was a adult though if she didn't talk to strangers she would never make and new relationships. That being said part of it came from choosing the right stranger, in the right surroundings. A stranger at the College or here at the Dinner was safer than a stranger in a black trench coat in a abandoned alley. Gia liked his laugh and it brought a smile to her face, it looked good on him. Well I'm probably shit out of luck then because I think your the 10th stranger Iv'e talked too today...well its you or that waitress over there not really sure she said pointing to the cutest little old lady that was just greeting customers. She looks pretty sketchy she said jokingly.
Gia was about ready to say something along the lines of I don't think your as scary as you think you are but decided not to throw off the conversation. At first he might be considered intimidating but he was all ready softening up some. It takes a lot of work to be great she said taking a pause before quickly replaying the accident through her head. When I was in high school a drunk driver hit the car my parents and I were in.....they passed away soon after. I was pretty banged up and couldn't dance for a few years. They weren't even really sure if I would ever be able to go back to the competitive level that I was at. That's when I took up theatre but also eventually cleared to dance again. There is always that extra chance I could re injure myself. she said opening her heart out to this guy. One thing about Gia was that she could easily share her feelings, except for when it came to in depth details and feelings about the accident and her dancing career. Now I'm good, Just not great she said with a bit of longing in her voice. Being good was not good enough, she wanted to be Great again. The talent was still there but the fear was holding her back. The air around her seem to thicken as she let out a small laugh trying not to make her sad story ruin the decent moment. But that was several years ago.. Iv'e got to admit breakfast always tastes better here she said. Gia was actually pretty good at cooking coming from both a Italian and Asian background, she was raised with all kinds of fantastic food recipes. How long have you been here Garret? she asked not knowing if he had been here a few years or was just a older student with a late start.
Post by Garrett Mobley on Feb 25, 2018 1:36:51 GMT
Garrett laughed. "She definitely looks pretty dangerous," he jokingly agreed. He was letting himself get comfortable with this girl, and he was beginning to hate himself for it. He liked to be intimidating, and domineering. He was the one in charge. Not that he wasn't in charge here, but comfortable wasn't where he wanted to be. Maybe it was the food getting to him. Just a little too homey. Garrett decided to go with that thought. It couldn't be that he was letting his guard down around this girl because she was already starting to grow on him. That couldn't be it at all.
"Hard work usually pays off," he said. He knew that from his experience in the police academy. He had to work his ass off in order to be the best. And if he was the best, he could make things the way he wanted, rather than having to listen to another student. He would be able to be the one in charge. Or at least, mostly in charge. He could deal with being under the instruction of a professor. At least for the time being.
Garrett almost choked up at her story, but quickly gained his composure. He hadn't expected it was that kind of accident. He had been under the impression that it was some sort of dancing accident, or something along those lines. "I'm so sorry to hear that," he said, giving her his sad puppy dog eye look. He had no idea what it would be like to lose a parent, so he wasn't able to empathize with her. Garrett straightened up a bit, and then took a bite of his food so he could try to focus on something other than her losing her parents. "Best be careful when you're dancing then," he said. No need for her to re-injure herself. There were always other alternatives.
He laughed as she changed the subject. "Agreed," he said, and took a sip of coffee. "I can't make anything like this at home." Garrett was useless in the kitchen. No matter how much he tried, he was great at burning things. "I haven't been here long. Went to a community college first," he said. "Since the beginning of this semester. So, a few months." He started Copper Harbor at a strange time, but he didn't mind it. So far, he was enjoying his major. "What about you?" he asked.

Gia had a way of growing on people whether they wanted her too or not. She would wiggle her way into your life and make you fall in love with the girl. She was cute as a button so how could you not like her? Gia hated to be called cute it made her feel like a child and yet that was how many people described her. Yet when she danced she felt mature commanding the crowds attention, all eyes on her. One thing Gia hated was being underestimated and most people didn't make that mistake twice. You really cant trust anyone now a days she shrugged.
She always worked hard knowing she wouldn't get any where sitting on her ass. Her parents had been very supportive of her dream, they pushed her to work hard but only if this was what she wanted. They wouldn't ever push her if her dreams changed. They never did though even as a child this had been her dream. It also causes sore limbs, blisters and exhaustion she said. Remember some nights coming home so sore and dead that she felt like she could sleep for a week and feel no better. It had been a complete lifestyle that she completely immersed herself in. She liked the fact that he believed in hard work too, granted his hard work lead to being a lot more dangerous. Gia couldn't say that even with how brave she was that she would put her own life at risk like officers did on a daily basis.
When it came to control Gia liked to be the one with it, making her slightly bossy at times. However, she knew when to pass the reins and who to accept being "controlled" by. Sometimes you just had to give in. Who would have thought that Garrett would be someone she could surrender to in the future. Her parents passing had been a dark time in her life, especially since she had been banged up so bad herself. Being Careful was easier said then done. Gia could play careful and probably would not make it very far. The people that made it on top, pushed their limits. I've been playing it Careful, unfortunately it wont get me anywhere. Dancers were known for pushing it and stretching themselves past their limits.
My mother was Italian and My father was Korean, the food in my house growing up was amazing. I learned to cook quite a bit of it. she said with a smile. Cooking was a nice relaxing hobby for her. If you need someone to cook a homemade meal for you let me know she said half joking and half serious, if he took her up on the offer she would be happy to oblige. Most college guys she knew didn't know how to cook and ate pathetically. She tried to convince her own brother that pie and top ramen was not a nutritional meal. Gia lived in a campus apartment so with the craziness around the school, she wasn't to worried about being murdered by her guest. Well welcome to Copper Harbor, this is my 2nd year here she said briefly pausing. This place grows on you that's for sure. I could have gone to several other schools but I really like it here. It has a relaxing feel about it.

With the way the country was going right now, she was right. It was hard to trust anyone nowadays. The sweet old lady who was waiting tables could be the next serial killer. Or at least out to scam someone out of their money. And Garrett's job was to going to be to protect the good people from the bad. Even though the line between good and bad could get a little fuzzy at times. He knew what he had to do. "You trusted me," he commented. He had done the same though, by allowing her to sit with him. She could have been a crazy, psychotic bitch who was out to steal his money. He hadn't known her either. But when she had sat down, he figured he would be able to take her easily if she had tried anything.
Garrett shrugged. "From what I hear, the pain is supposed to be worth it," he said. No pain, no gain, and all of that jazz. He knew what hard work was like. Growing up, his dad had always treated him like a soldier. His punishments weren't like those of a normal child. He had never been grounded. He had been instructed to do push-ups until he couldn't. Or to run until he puked. And then run some more. To some, it might seem like abuse, but Garrett was grateful for the way he grew up. He was taught to be tough, and to not let things get to him. "As long as you're taking care of yourself after the pain," he said. That was the important part. Keeping your mind sane. And letting your body have the time to relax. A person could only push themselves so far before they'd break.
He shook his head at the girl. "That wasn't a suggestion," he said. "Another injury won't get you anywhere, either." If he were to be injured before he completed the academy, he'd lose out on his future career. Playing it careful hadn't always been one of his priorities, but when it came to his career path, he knew he couldn't afford to be as stupid as he used to be.
"I'll have to take you up on that sometime," he grinned. Home cooked food was hard to resist. Especially if she made it as spicy as she had done with her omelette. Spicy food had to be the way to his heart. He grunted at her welcome. "Thanks," he said. "It's been good to me, so far." He hadn't had any issues. He never had any trouble finding his classes or making his way around campus. It had been going quite well for him.

I really didn't have a choice if I wanted food, this was just about the only open seat. she said as she continued to take bite fulls of food in between talking. Occasionally having to remind herself not to talk with her mouth full, sure her mother had taught her manners but Gia wasn't the most graceful woman outside of the dance stage. Plus you may not realize it yet but I'm definitely trying to take advantage of you she said with a flirtatious wink, mostly just joking. Gia would like to think she could take him on and the daring side to her would probably try, but really he was a good 7 or so inches taller than her and probably 70-80lbs bigger than her. There was no way she could take him on physically, but she could probably outrun him.
The mind of a dancer was messed up sometimes, people didn't realize the things they put their bodies through and then continued to push themselves. Not all people would understand that. All of a sudden she was feeling like a child again, Garret warning her to take care of herself. Yes Father she said teasingly. I don't really dance a whole lot now, not to my full ability. If I'm being honest with myself I probably wont ever be as good as I once was. But sometimes I think that is for the best. I hate to think what would happen if I did seriously injure myself. I have to take it easy I'm not superwoman. she replayed that several times a day through her mind.
Gia lived with three other girls and would just kick them out for the evening if Garrett ever did take her up on the offer. She got a long well enough with them but she didn't like sharing the lime light and if she had any guests over they were sure to flock around annoyingly. Maybe the two of them being alone might send the wrong impression to him though? No she wasn't that type of girl. Dinner, watch a movie, chat, maybe drink some wine...she had some fancy stuff her aunt and uncle sent her for her birthday last year that she had yet to crack open.
I'll make you anything you want she said beaming. Gia really did love to entertain people. Her family used to have little dinner parties with close friends, lots of good food and laughs were always had. Sure after a few drinks sometimes the adults got crazy and the kids were sent up to bed, but still she loved that kind of stuff. Now the only people she got to entertain with dinner was her roommates and occasionally her brother. Most of her friends were dancers and most of them didn't eat like her, so Dinners with them weren't all that interesting. Iv'e thought about staying here after graduation, you know if broadway doesn't work out. It already feels a bit like home to me. Going back to her actual hometown was hard, to many bad memories that he wished she could avoid. What about you? Staying around, going home....going where the job takes you? she asked. All she was doing was trying to get to know him even if she asked him a million questions.

Garrett laughed. "I guess you're right about that one," he said. The restaurant had been pretty full when she got here, though now it was slowly fizzling out. The breakfast rush was just about over, and he was sure the waitresses were glad for the break. But yet, here they were, still eating their breakfast in between getting to know each other. This hadn't been what he had expected when he had sat down to eat this morning. But he definitely didn't mind. There was some sort of connection between the two of them, he could feel it clearly. He wasn't sure what it was, but he knew he needed to get to know this girl.
"Good luck," he said, imagining her trying to take advantage of him. Hell, he might actually let her if she did it the right way. "I'm sure you're great," Garrett commented. She had the right body for dancing. He was sure she would be able to move across the dance floor just fine. She was probably just too hard on herself. Most people were. "I wouldn't recommend injuring yourself again," he said, with a smirk, trying to lighten the mood.
"Anything, eh?" he questioned. He couldn't think of anything crazy off the top of his head, but he was sure he could come up with something difficult for her to make. He had to test her abilities, after all. He'd be happy with pretty much whatever, though. Garrett usually cooked for himself, if microwaving hot pockets counted as cooking. "What about your dance studio? Where is that at?" he asked. Staying here had crossed his mind, but a bigger city cop was what he had always aimed to be. "I dunno," he said. "Maybe LA, or New York." Going home was always an option, but his home had never felt like home. Especially when he was younger, when they had been moving from place to place due to the military. "I've always wanted to be a big city officer, but it depends on where I get a job. Could be here, you never know," he said.
